Sangre de Cristo: The Blood of Christ is available on Amazon.com
Sangre de Cristo: The Blood of Christ is the first volume of Dr. Redfield’s Rio Grande Series, historical novels that tell the story of New Mexico’s rich cultures and the state’s often tragic past. Sangre de Cristo: The Blood of Christ begins with Mexico’s war of independence from Spain which opens New Mexico to Americans and others. It is a coming-of-age story about Joshua Kincaid, a seventeen-year-old Protestant boy from Missouri. He experiences the failure of Spanish and Mexican colonial policies, enslavement of Native Americans, destitute peasants selling themselves and their families to wealthy landowners, the origins of the Santa Fe Trail, and love and betrayal. Ultimately Kincaid must make the agonizing decision of joining a slave raid to steal Navajo children to sell or allow his lover Maria to be sold into debt peonage.
